ENHANCING FAST
FRACTAL IMAGE COMPRESSION USING ENTROPHY
ABSTRACT
Fractal Image
Compression has generated much interest due to its promise of high compression
ratios at good decompression quality and it enjoys the advantage of very fast
decompression.
Another advantage of fractal image compression
is its multi-resolution property, i.e. an image can be decoded at higher or
lower resolutions than the original, and it is possible to “zoom-in” on
sections of the image. These properties made it a very attractive method for
applications in multimedia.
Fractal compression
algorithm divides the image into regions or domains and all the domains in
domain pools are used in the compression process. This project includes entropy
method to reduce the encoding time of this technique by reducing the size of
the domain pool based on the Entropy value of each domain block.
This project performs entropy
based image compression which gives some desirable properties like resolution
independence, fast decoding, and very competitive rate-distortion curves.
